Lefort launch new shears in time
for RWM 2011 |
| The
new range of Lefort metal shears and balers is now available. The
improved range of equipment sees the introduction of new 750t and
900t shear force machines and redesigned 500t and 600t models. The
range has been extended and mobile, portable or static variants
are available at all four power ratings. A new operator cabin, remote
control unit, control panel and graphic interface have been added
together with additional sound reduction, increased power and box
over stroke facility to improve material compaction.
The competitively priced Lefort Conkest shear/baler has also been
introduced. This static, 500 tonne shear force machine is operated
by remote control. The space saving design makes the Conkest the
ideal first machine for metal processors dealing with a variety
of materials.
Medium duty shears have been redesigned with the power pack now
sited in a separate unit to the shear head and box. Separating the
power pack from the body of the machine reduces the noise levels
experienced by the operator and makes routine maintenance faster.
A window crosshead for additional strength is also featured on the
new machines. Two models are now available with shear forces of
800t or 1000t. Both Medium duty models are available with a wrap
around or side compression box design.
Amazon models are the largest machines in the Lefort range. As with
their small brothers new control systems and control panel make
efficient operation of the Amazon easier and more productive than
ever before. These huge machines feature a choice of loading box
of 8 or 10 metres long and shear forces from 1000 to 1400 tonnes.
Amazon shears can also be manufactured with either the warp around
or side compression box design.
RWM incorporating CIWM will be the first
time information on the new improved range of Lefort machines has
been available at a UK exhibition. Visit stand 3190 during the show
or if you cannot wait that long telephone 0870 777 6855 for further
information on Lefort equipment.

B. Nebbet & Son |
 |
Lefort's new heavy-weight now in
the UK.
B. Nebbett & Son Ltd., have taken delivery of the UKÕs
first Lefort 1250T Side Compression Shear.
The largest independent ferrous metal processor in South London, B.
Nebbett & Son Ltd of Mitcham, has purchased the first Lefort Side
Compression Shear to be delivered in the UK. The new Lefort is part
of a major on-going investment and expansion programme in which Nebbett
has been engaged for the past 5 years. £7 million has been invested
in the expansion of the central Mitcham depot and the acquisition
of a new site in Guildford. This huge investment has seen production
output rocket by over 30%, from some 300 to 400t per day. The planned
eventual capacity will be up to 600t per day.
At the heart of the highly mechanised Mitcham processing plant is
the Lefort Side Compression Shear. Lefort are not normally known for
their side compression machines, but more than 50% of their heavy
duty machines manufactured today are of the side compression type,
with customers attracted to the heavy design and easy of maintenance.
The new 1250T machine is one of the largest shears in the Lefort range.
Purchased to densify scrap and therefore maximise weight, its high
production rate is essential for the large tonnages processed by Nebbett's.
Since installation manual cutting of large scrap has reduced by 80%
resulting in a marked increase in the rate at which scrap is turned
around. A new 52T Terex mobile loader, the largest in the Terex range
and the first of its kind in the UK, has been purchased for the extra
reach, height of lift and grab capacity to feed this gigantic Lefort
machine. Powered by twin 450hp diesel engines, the side compression
shear is equipped with a 10 x 2.5 x 2.6 m box. A completely different
design to the Lefort folding box machines these shears prepare the
material for shearing using a lateral compression block and a single
folding lid. The block is moved inward by a single horizontal cylinder
connected to a torsion bar, to give parallel movement. The material
is folded or compressed into the closed section cross section using
the side compression and the flat lid fitted to the other side of
the box. The material is then cut to length. There is no need for
a hydraulic feed hopper on this machine as the next load of scrap
metal can be loaded directly into the box whilst the machine is in
operation. When the box opens at the end of a cycle the material will
automatically fall into the charging box, ready for the next cycle.
The shear head has an hold-down clamp, before the shear blade, to
compress the metal prior to shearing and a reduced height cutting
action to improve production when making short steel. Inside the air-conditioned
operators cabin there is the main control desk and optional computer
management system with LCD display panel. This gives a real time display
of all of the machines functions including: the position of all elements;
status of limit switches and the settings of the automatic cycles.
Additional information such as the number of hours worked, number
of bales produced or shear cycles completed, etc., is also at hand.
Commenting on investing and expanding in the current economic climate,
Stuart Nebbett explains, "With only two deep sea
docks on the South coast we do not have a permanent wharf or dock-side
facility. We have constructed an 'inland dock', where we can sort,
process, compact and store material short-term. Our purpose built
container loading facility can load up to 30 containers per day with
selected material. The system maximises load potential and minimises
transportation costs. This gives us the flexibility to be able to
ship the containers by road straight to any deep sea port, such as
Southampton, or to the Eurotunnel for direct rail transfer to mainland
Europe." Another reason for investing in modern, efficient equipment
and new facilities is, he says, "that it makes it easier to keep
abreast of the latest and increasingly stringent safety regulations
and customer quality requirements."
Nebbett has also opened a totally new depot in Guildford, called 'Guildford
Metal Exchange', for handling non-ferrous materials in a 'public-friendly'
environment. Here they produce a specific percentage product to customer
specifications, again mainly for export. |

J. Davidson (Broadheath) Ltd |
 |
| In keeping with their policy of
investing in new technology, J. Davidson (Broadheath) Ltd., have recently
installed a new Lefort 700T Medium Duty Shear/Baler; the fifth Lefort
machine the company has purchased. This Medium-Duty Shear/Baler is
part of the new range of Lefort machines.
There are three models of Medium Duty Shears offering shear forces
of 700T, 850T and 1000T. All models are of static design, but a
portable option is available for the 700T model. Built as one-piece
machines, similar to the popular Conqueror range, they fill the
gap between the Conqueror and the larger Amazon Shears. Best suited
to large or medium metal processors they feature the rapid cycle
Lefort TS box, or wrap-a-round box as it is known, mounted on a
heavy-duty chassis. The TS box with its wide opening and fast folding
action is ideal for processing heavy or bulky items and it fitted

Lowe Metals Limited |
 |
| Twenty years have passed since Lowe
Metals purchased their first Lefort machine. Lowe’s initially
purchased a Lefort 420TE shear/baler, but in 1996, after ten years
of reliable service the decision was taken to replace it with a larger
machine that could handle the increased tonnages more easily. The
420TE was sold to J. Sanders & Sons of Tavistock and replaced
with a new Lefort 500TE.
Ten years later history almost repeated itself with Lowe Metals
purchasing their third Lefort machine, a Medium Duty 700T. The Lefort
Medium Duty Shear is the latest addition to the Lefort family of
equipment and Lowe Metals machine is the first of its kind in the
United Kingdom. The Lefort 500TE has now been sold to J. Sanders
& Sons of Tavistock and Lowe Metals are looking forward to a
decade of trouble free shearing.
The Lefort Medium Duty 700T is of heavier construction than the
popular Lefort one-piece Conqueror range of shear balers, but it
is not as large as the Amazon range of machines. Designed for medium
to large metal processors Medium Duty machines can shear or bale
a wide range of material, including many of the heavier grades.
Fully automatic in operation, it has an operators cabin and optional
remote control for one man operation.
